back_kick.jpgNavan Taekwon-Do School hit a significant milestone on June 12 2011 when three members went forward for the testing at the INTA Summer Black Belt Grading. This years grading was held at the Sheldon Hotel in Dublin and 18 students from INTA clubs around the country were put through their paces by Master Brendan O'Toole (8th Degree) and Master Val Douglas (7th Degree) supported by family and friends who were able to observe the event.

Matthew Deans was due to grade last Christmas but had injured his arm and was forced to postpone. Matthew is one of four family members in the club and has now followed his sisters, Sally, into the black belt ranks.

Nicola Bergin was grading for 2nd degree black belt. Nicola joined the club as a black belt after a break from taekwon-do and had worked hard over the last few years preparing for this grade.

Club instructor Dave Elson, was grading for 4th Degree black belt. Many high grade black belts say that receiving your 4th degree is as big a moment as grading for your first degree.  Within taekwon-do structure, fourth degree, is Sabum, instructor level, and means that Mr Elson will be able to conduct gradings in the club on receiving his international instructors certificate.

The club has never had three grading for black belt at the one time and its  another big step forward for the meath based school.

Navan Taewon-Do instructor, Dave Elson, has a tradition where any new 1st degree black belt received a gift of a new black belt dobok, newly promoted Matthew, received his new Top Pro dobok on Thursday night - A proper black belt now!

Congratulations on the new promotions!
